Surging Floods and Soil Erosion Threaten Beiluohe River Communities
The article analyzes how changes in land use affect runoff and sediment in the Beiluohe River. By comparing years with similar precipitation levels, researchers found that runoff, sediment discharge, and sediment concentration increased between 1980 and 1996. However, before the 1970s, sediment discharge actually decreased. Overall, the study shows that changes in land use can impact the amount of runoff and sediment in the river.
