Tidal inequalities in Changjiang Estuary impact water levels and navigation.
The researchers analyzed tidal patterns at four locations in the Changjiang Estuary in 2009. They found that tidal daily inequalities are more pronounced during certain months and tides. Tidal ranges vary monthly, with peaks in March and September and lows in June and December. The South Branch has reduced tidal range due to river flow, while Yonglongsha has the largest range. The tide is mainly composed of specific tidal constituents, with M_2 and S_2 being the most prominent. The South Branch has irregular tides, while the North Branch has regular tides. Tidal distortion is significant at all locations, especially at Yonglongsha.
