Contemporary Chinese artistic criticism began in the 1980s with young critics from art schools leading the way. However, by the 1990s, criticism struggled to guide Chinese art and lost its influence. Critics now aim to bring intelligence and aestheticism back to criticism, focusing on problem awareness and critical thinking. The challenge is to create a solid framework for effective criticism in today's complex art world.
