Overgrazing in Northern Tibet leading to significant decline in grassland biodiversity.
The study looked at how grazing affects the Stipa purpurea alpine grassland in Northern Tibet. Different levels of grazing were tested, from none to heavy grazing. They found that as grazing intensity increased, the amount of plants and coverage decreased. The important value of Stipa purpurea and other species decreased with more grazing. Some plants that livestock don't like, as well as poisonous grasses, increased with heavy grazing.
