Film mulching reduces groundwater evaporation and salt accumulation in saline soil.
Groundwater evaporation and salt movement in saline soil were studied using soil columns with different plastic film coverings. Results showed that film mulching reduced groundwater evaporation and salt accumulation on the soil surface. The 9.97% opening ratio had the highest salt accumulation and evaporation. Salt crusts on the soil surface inhibited water evaporation over time. Different opening ratios affected the movement of Cl- ions more than Na+ and SO42-.
