A new early-season rice variety called Xiangzao 143 was developed to have good grain quality and resistance to rice blast disease. This was achieved by crossing different breeding materials, selecting individual plants in specific areas, and conducting Rapid Generation Advance in Nanning and Hainan. The new variety performed well in regional trials in southern China.
