Optimal Light Levels Boost Growth of Walnut Seedlings, Study Finds
The study looked at how different amounts of sunlight affect the growth of 1-year-old walnut seedlings. They found that seedlings grew taller in moderate shade, but had thicker stems in full sunlight. Seedlings invested more in leaves and less in stems as shading increased. The best growth overall was seen in moderate shade. Photosynthesis and leaf chlorophyll levels were highest in moderate shade too. In conclusion, moderate shading is good for the growth of 1-year-old walnut seedlings.
