New models predict hillslope erosion in China, revolutionizing soil conservation efforts.
This article reviews different models used in China to predict hillslope erosion. The models help us understand how soil erosion happens and support efforts to conserve soil and water on hillslopes. The research in China has gone through three stages: using statistical models, predicting erosion on steep hillslopes, and using physically based models. To improve these models, researchers suggest studying ephemeral gully erosion, flow in different types of terrain, and modeling erosion on steep hillslopes.
