A new type of hybrid rice called Zhanyou 226 was created to produce high yields and resist disease. It was made by crossing two different rice plants, resulting in a variety with good grain quality and resistance to rice blast. Zhanyou 226 was officially approved for farming in Guangdong Province in 2006.
