Unstable mineral diagenesis boosts oil and gas reserves in Keerqin Oilfield.
The study examined the types of changes that happen to rocks over time in a specific oilfield. By looking at different types of data like core samples and thin sections, the researchers identified three main types of changes in the rocks: compacted fine siltstone, cemented sandstone, and corroded unstable minerals. The last type, corroded unstable minerals, is the best for storing oil and gas.
