Surface sediment transport patterns in Huangmao Estuary reveal surprising downstream effects.
Surface sediments in the Huangmao Estuary were studied during dry seasons in 2010 and 2011. The sediments were found to be mainly muddy silt, poorly sorted, and transported in different directions within the estuary. Sediment transport downstream from the head of the estuary to the north of the sand bar, upstream from the inner slope to Damang island, and in various directions towards the estuary outlets. The sediment generally moves towards the west, in line with changes in water flow in the estuary.
