Land desertification in the Northwest of Shanxi Province is a serious issue affecting about 15,500 km2 of land. The main types of desertification are sandy desertification and water erosion, with water erosion covering a larger area. The study predicts that desertification will worsen due to population growth and unsustainable economic activities.
