Commercially valuable species dominate intertidal zone in Nanpeng islands, boosting local economy.
The researchers studied the types and amounts of sea creatures living in the intertidal zone of Nanpeng islands in Guangdong Province. They found 80 different species, with mollusks, crustaceans, and algae being the most common. These creatures are important for the local economy. The average amount of sea life in the area was 1,831.31 grams per square meter, with 218.67 individuals per square meter. Algae and mollusks were the most abundant in terms of weight and number. The diversity of species was high, with a range of 3.32 to 3.57, and the distribution of species was fairly even, with an average of 0.84.
