The country's urbanization rate has been increasing rapidly, with the level rising by 0.93 points per year since 1978. Despite being below the world average, China's urbanization rate is higher. The urban system in China has been adjusted multiple times to promote healthy urbanization, leading to a competitive global market position. Theoretical studies on urbanization have also improved. However, urgent issues need to be addressed for sustainable urban development, focusing on resource conservation and environmental friendliness. Future urbanization in China should prioritize quality and coordination between different urban areas for a harmonious society.
