Socket joints in space structures show increased load-bearing capacity under new loading conditions.
The study tested semi-rigid Socket joints commonly used in space structures. They found that these joints can handle bending moments well and are flexible. Joints under both bending and compressive forces are stronger than those under bending alone. When the ratio of bending to compressive force decreases, joint stiffness increases. This means structures with these joints can support more weight than previously thought.
