Revolutionizing Water Recharge: Reclaimed Water Improves Groundwater Quality in China
To improve groundwater quality using reclaimed water, a security system was developed for groundwater recharge with infiltration basins. Key technologies were used to select recharge sites, treat wastewater efficiently, model soil-aquifer systems, and monitor water quality. A pilot project in Zhengzhou showed that the reclaimed water met safety standards for surface recharge and improved groundwater quality to Grade III standards. It is recommended to integrate reclaimed water use with groundwater recharge, establish regulations, and promote artificial aquifer recharge with reclaimed water.
