Low Phosphorus Levels Increase Toxicity of Cadmium in Algae Cells.
The study looked at how different levels of cadmium (Cd2+) and phosphorus (P) affect the growth and chlorophyll levels in two types of microalgae. They found that high Cd2+ levels decreased chlorophyll levels in both types of microalgae. Low P levels also reduced chlorophyll levels, showing a lack of phosphorus. However, high P levels helped reduce the negative effects of Cd2+ on the microalgae.
