Green manures boost soil fertility and buffering capacity, enhancing agricultural productivity.
The study looked at how adding certain green manures to soil affects its nutrient levels. They found that using tropical leguminous green manures increased the soil's nutrient levels, making it more fertile and better at resisting acidity. The biggest increase in nutrients happened in the first 60 days after adding the green manures. Some green manures, like Desmodium velutinum and Pueraria lobata, had a bigger impact on soil nutrients than others. The nutrients in the soil, like calcium, magnesium, and potassium, were all connected to each other, but not to sodium.
