New Soybean Variety Boosts Yields, Feeding Millions Worldwide
This research focused on finding the best time and density to plant a type of high-protein soybeans called Guodou No.5. The study examined different planting times and densities to see how they affected the growth and yield of these soybeans. The results showed that delaying planting time reduced the yield of Guodou No.5, while increasing planting density initially boosted yield before reaching a tipping point. The study found that the planting density had a bigger impact on pod formation and yield compared to the planting time. The best results were seen when planting around June 5th and using a density of 2.25 to 2.55 plants per square meter, resulting in the highest yield of 3,173.7 kilograms per hectare. Therefore, it is recommended to plant Guodou No.5 early, ideally between June 5th and 12th, with an optimal planting density of 2.25 to 2.55 plants per square meter to achieve the best yields.
