New safety system for research reactor ensures increased sensitivity and stability.
The safety renovation project for the control and protection system of the swimming-pool research reactor (SPR) aimed to enhance safety and sensitivity. A new advanced system was designed, installed, and tested, following national standards and nuclear safety codes. Changes included modifying protection variables and equipment, increasing sensitivity, and adding backup power supply for safe shutdown. The new system showed good stability and anti-jamming ability, with improved reactor power indication and auto-power adjustment. The successful two-year operation of the new system demonstrated increased safety and sensitivity, paving the way for similar renovations in other research reactors in China.
