Soil moisture study reveals potential water scarcity impact on plant growth.
The study looked at how soil moisture varies over time and space on the Loess Plateau in China. Researchers used a method called Kriging to analyze the distribution of soil moisture on a slope in the Caijiachuan watershed. They found that soil moisture in the top 30 cm of soil was lower in April but higher in August compared to the deeper 30-60 cm layer. Overall, soil moisture levels were enough for plant growth in the beginning, but more water was needed as plants grew.
