Altitude and slope determine land use in Himalayan valleys, impacting farming and grazing.
Land use in the Mid. Himalaya mountain area was studied using satellite images. The researchers found that farmland is mainly found at altitudes between 2500-3800m with gentle slopes, while grasslands dominate at higher altitudes. The Gyrong Valley has the most available land for cultivation and grazing. Cultivation and grazing activities are happening on slopes that are not ideal, which could harm the environment and land resources.
