The investigation of wetlands from Bohai Gulf to Laizhou Bay found that there are different types of wetlands, including natural and artificial ones. The total wetland area in the study area is 15,060.29 km2. Natural wetlands cover about 67% of this area, totaling around 10,071.31 km2, while artificial wetlands make up about 33%, with a total area of approximately 4,988.98 km2.
