The article discusses the history and ruling policies of the ancient minority group called "DuZhangMan". They lived in southern Sichuan and border areas of Yunnan and Guizhou. The rulers of the Ming Dynasty tried to control them by using Han officials, which led to conflicts and ultimately the downfall of the DuZhangMan. The Ming government's policies in the southwest of China were unsuccessful.
