Yangtze River faces annual sediment shortage of 100 million tons.
The study looked at how much sediment the Yangtze River needs. They found that the river needs sediment for natural processes, building materials, and land creation. Due to human activities and the Three Gorges Reservoir, the amount of sediment in the river has decreased. The Shanghai land creation project requires a lot of sediment, but there is a shortage of about 100 million tons each year.
