Arid Xinjiang Farmers Slash Water Use with Efficient Irrigation Techniques
The researchers used a method to calculate crop water needs and analyzed irrigation amounts for different methods in Xinjiang. They found that furrow and border irrigation require the most water, while micro-irrigation uses the least. During drought years, water needs increase for all methods. Efficient irrigation helps reduce water usage, but traditional methods still require a lot of water. This study helps manage water resources for agriculture in arid Xinjiang.
