Aquatic plants show promise in purifying polluted water bodies.
Aquatic plants like Acorus calamus, Canna generalis, Iris wilsonii, and Scirpus validus can help clean up polluted water. In an experiment, these plants removed a lot of pollutants like nitrogen, phosphorus, and organic matter from the water. Acorus calamus removed 83.23% of nitrogen, Canna generalis removed 88.00% of phosphorus, and Iris wilsonii removed 88.04% of organic matter. These plants grew well in the polluted water and did a good job of cleaning it up.
