Reservoir landslide stability impacted by water level fluctuations and rainfall.
The researchers studied the stability of accumulation landslides in the Three Gorges reservoir area during rainfall and water level changes. They used computer simulations to analyze the stability of a specific landslide in Bailong village. The results showed that the landslide is more stable at a water level of about 159 meters during rising water levels, but becomes less stable during water level drawdown, especially when there is heavy rainfall. This suggests that the stability of landslides in reservoir banks is influenced by water level fluctuations and rainfall.
