Karst Cave Treatments Reduce Losses in Mountain Tunnel Construction.
The researchers studied karst formations at the eastern portal of Huaying Mountain Tunnel and treated three karst caves to reduce potential losses. They analyzed the geological conditions and proposed ways to prevent disasters during tunnel construction. By conducting long, medium, and short-distance geological surveys, they located karst areas and drilled holes to assess water and mud conditions. The researchers then implemented drainage or blocking measures based on the surveyed karst conditions.
