The researchers studied the sedimentary facies of a rock formation in the Qaidam Basin. They found different types of sediment like alluvial fan, fan delta, braid river, braided delta, and lacustrine facies in the area. Two different depositional systems were identified in different parts of the basin. By establishing a sedimentary facies model, the researchers were able to map out where different types of sediment are located, which can help with future exploration in the area.
