Chinese EFL learners' mental lexicons show unique word association patterns.
The study looked at how Chinese people learning English associate words in their minds compared to native English speakers. They found that Chinese learners mix semantic and non-semantic associations in their English mental lexicon, while native English speakers organize words based on meaning. As Chinese learners become more proficient in English, their word associations develop at different rates for different types of knowledge compared to native English speakers.
