A new type of japonica rice called C52 was developed with a big panicle, high yield, and disease resistance. One of its hybrids, Liaoyou 1052, also has high yield and disease resistance. The researchers used specific methods to breed these new rice varieties, focusing on improving their restoring ability and grain quality. The new rice varieties were approved for use in Liaoning Province in 2004.
