Offshore oil deposits discovered through turbidite sediment analysis
The study looked at different types of sediment found in a specific area in Niuzhuang sag. They found two main types: sandy and muddy turbidites. The sandy ones have finer grains and show signs of slumping. They can be further divided into two subtypes based on their distribution patterns. The muddy turbidites come in two forms: graded straticule mudstone and inhomogeneous massive mudstone. These sediments were formed by low-density turbidity currents. The researchers also discussed how these findings can help in understanding the formation of deltas and their importance in finding oil.
