Cleaner Fuel Swap Slashes Childhood Pollution Exposure
The study compared burning bio-briquettes and raw coal to see which emitted less harmful SO_2 gas. They checked the health of kids in families using each fuel type. Results showed raw coal released 5-7 times more SO_2 than bio-briquettes. However, biological markers in children's blood were similar in both groups, suggesting no major health difference between the fuels. The study suggests using bio-briquettes could significantly decrease SO_2 emissions, making them a cleaner choice. Further research is needed to understand if bio-briquettes also protect against hidden health risks from burning coal.
