Trickle irrigation under plastic film (TIUF) reduces the amount of water needed for cotton fields and improves water use efficiency. A study compared TIUF with furrow irrigation and found that TIUF not only lowers water requirements but also enhances water utilization throughout the cotton growing season. Fields with TIUF showed increased leaf area, higher yields, and improved water use efficiency compared to furrow irrigation.
