Breakthrough Treatment Protects Lungs from Deadly Infection
The researchers wanted to see how a drug called aminoguanidine affects lung injury caused by endotoxins in rats. They gave rats different doses of aminoguanidine after giving them endotoxins and then looked at various markers of lung damage. They found that aminoguanidine helped to decrease lung inflammation and damage caused by endotoxins. It also reduced the levels of harmful substances in the lungs and increased the activity of protective enzymes. This suggests that aminoguanidine may be helpful in treating lung injuries caused by certain toxins.
