Heavy grazing leads to plant diversity decline in Inner Mongolia Steppe.
The experiment studied how different numbers of sheep grazing in Inner Mongolia affected plant diversity in the Artemisia frigida community. They used 5 stocking rates and monitored the area for 8 years. The results showed that as the number of sheep increased, plant diversity decreased, and certain plant species became more dominant. Heavy grazing led to a decrease in grass and a shift towards a different plant community. Overall, the abundance of certain plant species remained stable, but the diversity and evenness of the community decreased with higher stocking rates.
