A new type of rice called Jinke 1A was created by crossing different rice plants. It has many good qualities like not producing pollen, being easy to grow, and having good grain quality. This rice was tested in Hubei in 2005 and found to be good for making hybrid rice. One specific hybrid rice made with Jinke 1A called Keyou 8377 showed high yields and good grain quality. It was approved for commercial production in 2006.
