Highly productive coal reservoirs in Erdos Basin set to boost methane development.
The researchers studied the pores and cracks in low rank coal reservoirs in Erdos Basin to see how suitable they are for coal bed methane development. They found that the coal in the south part of the basin has low pore-throat ratio, high mercury withdrawal efficiency, and high mining recovery rate, making it favorable for methane extraction. The coal porosity and permeability were low, but the cracks in the coal were well developed and connected, which is good for methane production. Overall, the coal seams in the basin are structurally sound and conducive to coal bed methane development.
