The researchers studied the sandstones of the Xishanyao Formation in the Shixi area and found evidence of meandering river delta facies. They identified 10 microfacies within the formation, including distributary channels and flood plains. The sand-body distribution is mainly controlled by subaqueous distributary channels and mouth bars. The distribution pattern of sand-bodies is influenced by sedimentary facies.
