Optimizing nitrogen distribution boosts crop yield and profits in Shanxi.
The way nitrogen fertilizer is spread on crops can affect how much they grow and how efficiently they use the nitrogen. In a study on winter wheat and summer maize, researchers found that giving 55% of the nitrogen to winter wheat and 45% to summer maize led to the highest production and profit. Using 420 kg of nitrogen per hectare, this distribution resulted in the best outcomes. They also discovered that giving 189 kg of nitrogen to wheat helped it grow better. However, bad weather during crop growth stages can lower the efficiency of nitrogen use.
