Researchers studied the types and amounts of tiny plants in Xuanwu Lake. They found 86 different species, with Chlorophyceae and Bacillariophyceae being the most common. By looking at these plants, they could tell that the lake's water is becoming too rich in nutrients, which can harm the ecosystem.
