Diverse Origins of Xujiahe Formation Unveiled, Shaping West Sichuan's Landscape
The study analyzed rocks from the Xujiahe Formation in West Sichuan Depression to understand where they came from. They found that the rocks in the northern region came from metamorphic rocks and carbonate, while those in the central region came from igneous sources. The southern region had a mix of sources. Iron pyrites were abundant, and certain minerals were only found in specific areas. The rocks in the north were influenced by sources from the northeast and northwest, the central rocks had a mix of sources, and the southern rocks came from the Kangdian oldland. The uplift differences in different regions were key factors in the variety of sources found in the Xujiahe Formation.
