Urban Expansion in Shijiazhuang Rapidly Alters Landscape, Threatening Agriculture and Environment.
Land use in Shijiazhuang has changed significantly from 1987 to 2001, with urban areas, vegetable fields, and water bodies expanding rapidly while arable land, woods, and orchards have decreased. The study used Landsat TM images to analyze these changes, showing that urban expansion is mainly happening around the old city and in the eastern part. People living in the city are driving this urban growth. The findings provide maps showing the changes in land use over time, highlighting the impact of urbanization on the landscape.
