Flood control operation scheme boosts reservoir capacity and reduces peak discharge.
The researchers studied how to improve flood control at Ankang Reservoir by using rainfall forecasts. They used two indicators, total forecasted rain and reservoir water levels, to create a new flood control plan. By adjusting water levels before floods, they increased flood control capacity and reduced peak discharges. They found that setting the flood control level at 326 meters improved flood control abilities and allowed for better use of floodwater resources.
