Excessive NO3- levels in soil harm cucumber photosynthesis and energy allocation.
The study looked at how different levels of nitrate (NO3-) affected the photosynthesis of cucumber seedling leaves. Low NO3- levels improved the leaves' ability to capture light energy and photosynthesize. But as NO3- levels increased, the efficiency of photosynthesis decreased. High NO3- levels led to a significant decrease in photosynthetic rate and changes in light energy allocation. Excessive NO3- caused a decrease in electron transfer and an increase in heat dissipation of absorbed light energy. Overall, high NO3- levels negatively impacted the photosynthetic process in cucumber seedling leaves.
