Volcanic rock lithology can be tricky to identify due to its complex nature. By studying logging data in Xushen region of Songliao Basin and using a method called Elemental Capture Spectroscopy (ECS), researchers have developed a way to recognize different types of volcanic rocks. They analyzed element cross plots and main components to establish a method that accurately identifies volcanic rock types. This method was tested on well intervals and produced significantly improved results.
