Revolutionizing Chinese History Education: From Periods to Dynasties
The teaching of Chinese history in universities during the Republic of China period evolved from dividing history into Western-style periods to organizing it by dynasties. Initially, history was categorized into Ancient, Medieval, Early Modern, and Modern China, but later shifted to six periods based on dynasties. This change was influenced by the need to better reflect China's own historical development and move away from Eurocentric perspectives. The shift in teaching systems also impacted the compilation of history textbooks, moving from Western-style imitation to a focus on the unique characteristics of Chinese history.
