New soil study reveals impact of texture on water retention
The study compared different models for soil water behavior and found the best one. They used the Van Genuchten equation to simulate water behavior in five types of soil. The soil water behavior varied depending on the soil texture: rough sand changed quickly, while tight sand and loam changed more slowly. The shape factor of the curve increased with larger particle sizes and less clay content. Heavy clayed soil had smaller alpha values compared to light soil.
