Abandoned farmland holds key to restoring ecosystem in rocky desert areas
The study looked at how different types of land use affect the types of plants that grow in a rocky desert area in China. They studied three different areas: hills that were closed off, abandoned farmland, and active farmland. They found that abandoned farmland had the most seeds, while hill closing land had the least. Seeds were mostly found in the top 0-5cm of soil. The types of seeds varied between the different areas, with abandoned farmland having the most diverse seeds. The study suggests that introducing certain plant species could help restore vegetation in the area quickly.
